Dishwasher Glossary
Adjustable Racking
Adjustable racking can be moved around inside the Dishwasher, to make it more convenient for specific wash loads and awkward sized item.
Alternating Spray Arms
Water alternates between the spray arms for lowest water consumption and noise level.
Anti Flood Devices
This device has an anti leak sensor fitted to the base of the appliance. Should a leak be detected then the dishwasher’s water supply will be cut off within seconds.
Auto 3 in 1 Detection
Detects whether you are using a 3 in 1 detergent and then will automatically adjust the temperature during the cycle to make sure the detergent is activated efficiently.
Audible End of Programme
A noise is emitted at the end of the cycle to alert you that the dishwasher programme has ended.
Automatic Load Recognition
Allows for the correct amount of water to enter the dishwasher and can reduce water consumption.
Auto Sensor
Monitors the turbidity of the water and detects particles. The temperature, water intake, programme duration and electricity consumption are all automatically adjusted to suit the level of soiling.
Built-In (or Integrated)
Means your machine is built-in or integrated into a specific kitchen unit.
Child Safety Lock
This feature means that the machine will not be able to be opened by children when the machine is in use or when the lock is enabled.
Cutlery Basket
A neat storage device used to hold your cutlery in position while it is cleaned in your dishwasher.
Decibels
The unit of measurement used when measuring the noise of your appliance, abbreviated dB.
Delay Timer
A handy feature that allows you to delay the start time of your appliance’s programme. This allows you to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates.
Drawer Dishwasher
The dishwasher draws slide out allowing an easy method of loading and unloading the dishwasher.
Drying Performance
Rating awarded to a dishwasher, which ranges from A-G and signifying how well the appliance dries its dishes during a cycle, with A being the best rating.
Energy Rating
The rating awarded to a washing machine for its energy efficiency, A is currently the highest energy rating for a washing machine. Better for the environment and better for your energy bills.
Freestanding
The front of the appliance is visible and can be placed anywhere in the kitchen, either underneath a work surface or stood independently.
Glass Care/Delicate Programme
A dishwasher programme designed to be more delicate with your finer glass and crockery items.
Half Load
A dishwasher programme designed for those smaller loads. It will use less electricity and water than a normal cycle.
Integrated
A type of dishwasher designed to be hidden from view behind your kitchen cupboards to maintain a seamless overall design in your kitchen.
Noise Level
This shows how loud the dishwasher will be during the cycle, a lower noise level will be less disturbing in the day to day running of your home.
Number of Programmes
The amount of programmes as standard on the appliance.
Overflow Protection
A system to protect against any leaks or overflows.
Place Settings
This is the measure by which the capacity of a dishwasher is normally judged. A Place Setting is generally taken as one large plate, one side plate, a cup/glass, saucer and cutlery.
Pre Soak
A dishwasher programme developed for those times when you’re in a bit of a hurry. This programme will still get great results in an efficient manner.
Quick Wash
A dishwasher programme developed for those times when you’re in a bit of a hurry. This programme will still get great results in an efficient manner.
Semi-Integrated Dishwasher
This is a dishwasher type that has the benefits of both free-standing and integrated. Here the control panel is visible and accessible but the rest of the appliance is hidden behind a kitchen cupboard.
Slimline Dishwasher
If you do not have as much room for a dishwasher choose a slimline model, they take up less space but perform the same as a standard size model.
Table-Top Dishwasher
A type of dishwasher that’s perfect for those kitchens that lack the required under-counter space. This appliance is designed to be able to sit comfortably on a kitchen worktop.
Time to End Cycle
This is a useful feature that will provide you with an estimated finish time for your appliance’s programme, allowing you to get on with more important things in your home.
Wash Performance
This is the rating which is given to a dishwasher to determine how well it cleans during a wash cycle - measured A-G, with A rating giving the best wash performance.
